RE:       Weekly Update

Today, God has smiled on us!  Today, God has shown God’s great love and kindness toward us!  Today, God has blessed us – for today, we move into the new, state of the art, beautiful Administration Building!  Today is the day God has made!!!

Today, we are so grateful to the students, faculty and parents who assisted us in this move.  We are especially grateful to the Middle School students.  They were tireless, courteous, respectful and provided many much needed laughs.  Some items which left our offices, arrived in quite amusing stances and places in the new buildings.  Delightful, fun surprises were very welcomed!

Today, we are also very grateful for the many overheard wonderful comments on the beauty and design.  It is breathtaking to ponder the gifts God gives to men and women which they, then, utilize in the service of others.  The architects, the builders, the furniture consultants – each and everyone - exercised their talent and expertise as a labor of love to construct a work of beauty!  We are so grateful!

Please join with us in praising God and in thanking all those who had an role to play in this construction.  Indeed, God is good – all the time!!!!!!

There will be a short break in our communication with you today as we relocate the phones and computers to our new building.  Thank you in advance for your patience.  

Reminders and Other Things

• The new Administration building will be open on Monday.  Until the courtyard is finished, everyone should enter via the doorway across from the gym.  The buzzer system to enter through the gate will no longer be operable.  Students who are late, parents who are assisting in a classroom, etc. must come to the office to sign is as always.  A doorway in the rear of the building opens to a walkway toward the Middle School which then provides access to the rest of the school.  We apologize for this inconvenience, but it will be short-lived once the courtyard is completed.

• Protecting God’s Children classes are being held at Queen of Peace on Wednesday, October 8th – 6:30 – 8:30 PM.
• The Friends of QPA Breakfast is scheduled for Thursday, September 25th.  If you can help in any way, please contact the parents in charge as noted on the e-mail sent home earlier.
• Jane Wilcox will be here at Queen of Peace for winter uniforms on October 2nd from 3 – 6:00 PM in Walsh Hall.
• Please put Sunday, October 5th on your calendar for the Blessing of the new buildings following the 10:00 AM Mass.  Parents and students (in formal uniforms) are expected to attend.
• The Touching Safety classes mandated by the Diocese will be taught the week of November 3rd.  The curriculum and opt-out forms can be found on the website.
• The Diocese has granted us an “Act of God” day for one of the names missed with Tropical Storm Fay.  The other day will be made up on Friday, February 13th.  Please mark this on your calendar.

 

From the Stewardship Office

This is the last weekend for purchasing tickets for the Autumn Dinner Dance.  Tickets are $125.  If you  cannot participate, it would be appropriate to make a donation of any amount towards the QPA classrooms and Science lab we will accept them.

Please be aware that all the necessary medical forms are now available on our website.  There are two forms which must be completed for students who inhalers on their person.  Under no circumstances are students to carry any other medication, prescription or over the counter.  All such medications must be sent to the office in the original container.

A sincere thank you to all parents who have worked so hard to bring their child’s medical file into compliance with State law.

Kitchen News

We are awaiting the completion of our first step in utilizing the kitchen – an inspection by the Health Department.  We will keep you updated on the progress.   Keep packing those lunches as you anticipate the future.

Soccer News

In 2008, the QPA Varsity Soccer Team has roared off to a 3-1-0 start.  The Soccer Saints beat Countryside Christian and St. Pat's by the same score 4-2.  After losing to Blessed Trinity, the Saints returned to the winning column by posting another win over St. Pat's, 2-1.

QPA BASKETBALL INFORMATION
Now that fall soccer season is underway, it will soon be time to start planning for basketball. That means we need basketball coaches, as well as players.  Basketball registration will close on Thursday, October 23, in order to allow enough time to split teams before the coaches mtg.

If you are interested in coaching a team please let Sally Wasik know ASAP, 332-8923 or sjwasik@cox.net. Gym space is limited so we need know how many coaches/teams we may have, to plan accordingly.

Basketball Information is as follows:
Practice Begin: 

  Week of November 10, 2008 (days & times TBD at a later date)
Games Begin:    Week of December 1, 2008 (times 5:30 or 6:30)
Game Days:         Wed. K/1, Thurs. 2/3, Friday 4/5 (Sat. games will be scheduled if needed)
Cost:             

  $65 YMCA Members       $85 Non-Members
Coaches Meeting:  October 30, 2008 @6:00 pm @ SW YMCA (coaches must attend this meeting, as well as have completed all the paperwork QPA requires you to have if you work with children, and have taken the Protecting God's Children class)

Registration forms can be picked up in the school office, or by going to ncfymca.org, click on Sports, click on Programs at SW YMCA, above the Local Replay Ad click on 2008 Sports Guide, the registration form is on page 12 of the program guide. Print it out and return to the school office with a check payable to the YMCA for either $65 YMCA member or $85 non-member. Remember coaches children play for free.
