RE:       Weekly Update

This past Tuesday, all of us at Queen of Peace Academy began in earnest to develop the theme for this year:  Witness to Hope.  In identifying signs of hope in our world, we heard briefly the story of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.  Elizabeth grew up in New York where she watched her father, a physician, respond to requests which came twenty-four hours a day to go to the home of someone who was sick.  There, whether rich or poor, whether able to pay or not, he helped to heal the sick, to respond to a need, to give without counting the cost.  Elizabeth observed and learned from this unselfish dedication.  She learned that gifts are meant to be shared, that all persons are to be treated with dignity and respect, and that God is never outdone in generosity.

It is quite clear what we can learn from her. Observers are only as good as the actions they are willing to imitate.  All around us we have great models of generosity and compassion.  All around us we have those who may not meet our expectations, but the goodness and the intent is within them.  It is important to forward movement in our faith journey that we look, we follow, we learn.  Despite the moments of falling and not doing exactly what we would like, once we recognize where we are on our journey and are resolute in moving forward, success has been achieved.  We can, certainly, all observe and learn from one another.

As you go through your week, take note of those around you.  What qualities can you recognize as being those of a generous and compassionate person?  How can you imitate the good you observe?

Reminders and Other Things

Kitchen News

We are presently in the process of securing certification from our Health Department to use the newly completed kitchen for our children’s daily lunches.  Should all go well, it is quite possible that we can provide hot, nutritional lunches within a few weeks.  Nick Farah, a parishioner and owner of Farah’s on the Avenue and catering service, is heading up this effort.  We will keep you updated on the progress.

With this in mind, we will be returning the lunch order forms and checks to you via your children.  Keep packing those lunches as you anticipate the future.

From Marie Bunde, our School Nurse:

Parents of students with any allergy or diagnosed medical condition are requested to send the RN a detailed description of the condition and how they would like it monitored/treated.  Feel free to call me at school, e-mail me, or send it to my office.
