RE: Weekly Update
What a great effort we have made together to begin this new school year! We began, we stopped, and began again. Even though it is hard to establish a routine when the “daily” part isn’t there, the consistency in our efforts is quite obvious. We pray that no more tropical storms or hurricanes come our way.
Recently, a grandparent shared with me that his grandchild came home from school reminding the family to say the Sign of the Cross. They were also told that, “Sister Nancy lights a candle and then Jesus comes and is with us.”. Once again, from the mouth of a four-year-old comes a powerful lesson for us all. The simple lighting of a candle and an intentional interior focus can be the means of bringing God into the activity of the present moment. It is easy; it is ordinary; and it is profound.
Sometimes, we may find that it is quite overwhelming to set aside time for enriching our relationship with God and feeling that we are doing all we can to move forward on our spiritual journey. It may be that our daily lives and routine tug tightly at every minute and all our great spiritual plans go untapped. We may experience too much on our agenda, too many items on our calendar. How wonderful it is to have the insight of the very young urging us to keep our lives simple!
Be sure to bring God into your life frequently during this upcoming week. Light a candle and ask Jesus to be with you. Take a deep breath and breathe in the goodness and peace of Christ. Recall the blessings of the moment and let God move you closer and closer to the Creator who made you unique and special. And then, share your experience of God-presence with one another.
