RE:       Weekly Update

Today, August 22nd, is the Feast of the Queenship of Mary!  This special day was first declared by Pope Pius XII in 1954 to honor Mary in her role as mother and advocate for us all.  This is our Feast Day.  This is the day for us to recall why Mary is a good model for us and what her life was like.  It is the day to recall her “yes” to God to do what God wanted without knowing the end or how to get there.  It is the day to remember that Mary was a young teenager when she was selected to be the mother of Jesus.  It is the day to honor her spirit, her ordinary life, her relationship with her parents and friends.

With all this in mind, today, we at the Academy, had intended to celebrate in a variety of ways – by reciting the entire Rosary or a decade, by making crowns, by displaying posters throughout the school, by doing various projects.  But, God had other plans for us – just to be sure that we know Who is in charge.  So, like Mary, we say “yes” to having our plans change, we will celebrate on Monday as a school, even though today many of us will be celebrating in our hearts.

Enjoy this day with your children.  Pray for those who are in harm’s way, those who will experience flooding before the weekend is over, those who were forced to leave their homes.  God is good – all the time!

 

Reminders and Other Things

• Back to School Night for Middle School Parents is on Tuesday, August 26th beginning at 6:00 PM.  Parents should go directly to the classrooms.  No Child Care will be provided.
• Back to School Night for Elementary Parents is on Wednesday, August 27th beginning at 6:00 PM.  Parents should go directly to the classrooms.  Child Care will be provided.
• Following each session in the classrooms there will be a general meeting in Walsh Hall.  Middle School parents who attend on Tuesday need not attend this session on Wednesday.
• Thank you all so much for your cooperation with the drop-off and pickup procedure.  Each day gets better and once the Patrols learn who you are and the car you drive, it will go much faster.
• Yes, thanks to Fay for our days off, we will be letting you know when we will be making them up.

 

From Marie Bunde, our School Nurse:

Parents of students with any allergy or diagnosed medical condition are requested to send the RN a detailed description of the condition and how they would like it monitored/treated.  They can feel free to call me at school, e-mail me, or send it to my office.

 

From Sally Wasik:

Soccer practice starts the week of August 25th. Please make sure that your child is prepared for practice, wearing cleats, socks and shin guards which are required, and bringing a soccer ball and a water bottle. Soccer ball size for K/1 #3, 2/3 #4, 4/5 #4.

In case of bad weather on the day of practices or games make sure that you check your email or contact your coach regarding practice or reschedule of game.

Programs at SW YMCA, above the Local Replay Ad click on 2008 Sports Guide, the registration for is on page 12 of the program guide. Print it out and return to the office with a check payable to the YMCA for either $65 YMCA member or $85 Non-member.
